Guidelines
Bodega releases digital issues on the first Monday of every month (except January and July) featuring poetry, prose, and occasional interviews by established and emerging writers. We’re here to give you a handful of essential pieces you can digest in one sitting.
We're seeking previously unpublished poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Simultaneous submissions are always ok, and if you have a piece accepted elsewhere, congratulations! Please let us know by sending us a message via Submittable.
Bodega will always be free to read and you will always be able to submit for free. If you'd like to donate $3 with your submission, we'll use it to keep our operations running (and to pay for services like Submittable that make life better for you and us). This will in no way change how we read your submission, but it will be deeply appreciated. Thank you!
Submit up to 3 previously unpublished poems in a single document (3 pages max). Please only include your bio and personal information in the cover letter area. It should not appear anywhere in your submission or submission title.
Please send one submission at a time, and please submit only once every 6 months.

We accept reader applications on a rolling basis. If you're interested in helping us surface great content, please read on!
Bodega readerships run for 6 months, and you can be based anywhere in the world--all you need is reliable internet access, because all of our submissions are online. This is a time commitment of up to 5 hours a week.
You'd be reading unsolicited submissions and calling our attention to the work you think is great. Please specify whether you're interested in reading poetry, prose, or both (we suggest choosing one, but if you can make a compelling case for both, we're all ears). You'll also have the opportunity to solicit writers on behalf of the magazine if you'd like.
IMPORTANT APPLICATION STATUS INFO
Our readerships fill up quickly, and we get a deeply flattering number of applications--far more than we could ever bring on as readers. We keep applications on file for about a year, and if we haven't been able to offer you a readership after that time, we'll mark your application as "complete." This is not a rejection, and it doesn't mean we're not interested in having you read! It just means it's taken us so long to get back to you that it doesn't feel right to keep holding onto your application. If your application has been marked as "complete" but you are still interested in reading for us, please feel free to resubmit at any time.
We love author rights. When you publish with Bodega, you basically agree to three things:
- You grant us first serial rights. Once your piece is published, rights revert back to you.
- Your work will remain on our website permanently.
- You grant us non-exclusive re-print rights. We don't abuse this privilege. We might use your work in promotional materials, for example. But if we ever put your work in something that we plan to sell, we'll reach out to you about compensation.
After your work appears in Bodega, you're free to republish it, or to give others permission to republish it. We ask that if you do so, you credit it as first appearing in Bodega. If you have any questions, just let us know by filling out this form!
